Oxford - the "city of dreaming spires" is about 15 minutes by car from Hinton Waldrist. This beautiful and historic city is home to one of Britain’s finest universities, and the college buildings which date back to the 13th century are glorious to look at and to visit. Oxford also has many fascinating museums, including the Ashmolean and the Pitt-Rivers.

Burford - the "gateway to the Cotswolds", is a 25 minute drive from Hinton Waldrist. The stunning main street which goes down the hill to an ancient bridge over the river Windrush is lined with beautiful stone-built town houses. Burford is famous for its antique shops.


Berkshire Downs - the range of hills which lies a few miles to the south of Hinton Waldrist is alive with the evidence of ancient habitation. he village of Uffington is overlooked by the famous White Horse, a huge hill carving which is more than 3,000 years old. Behind the White Horse lies the Ridgeway, which traverses the whole length of the Berkshire Downs and is believed to be the oldest road in Europe. The Downs offer excellent walking for both casual strolls and epic rambles.

River Thames - Hinton Waldrist lies on the edge of a ridge which overlooks the Thames valley, and the river is less than a mile to the north. The Thames Path national trail provides an epic hike along the entire length of the river, or an opportunity for an easy walk in very peaceful surroundings in the vicinity of Hinton Waldrist.

Local Eating - the nearest place for eating is the Blue Boar pub in Longworth, about a mile down the road. The food here is highly recommended (and not expensive), and you can be sure of a warm welcome. For something a little more up market, there's the Lamb at Buckland and the Trout at Tadpole Bridge, both about 3 miles away.
